Do people still use prepaid phone cards?

Main Post:

It was a big deal just a few years ago. People had to buy phone cards and get ripped off because they were setup to always have just enough left not to make a substantial call. The big issue was rounding - a 1 minute call with a 4 minute rounding card would eat 4 minutes. If it was 4 minutes and 1 second then the card would deduct 8 minutes.

Now it seems even the old people in the countryside use social media and have streaming access.

Top Comment: Everyone in Nicaragua use prepaid phone service, but the cards were discontinued like 15 years ago. We use electronic recharges instead and you can buy them at grocery stores

Do current Sony phone support exFAT for their SD-cards?

Main Post:

Cheaper phones will often format SD-cards as FAT32 only, meaning you can’t store files larger than 4GB on them. Better phones usually support the exFAT file system for their expandable storage, which alleviates this issue. Do Sony’s current phones have support for that?

I enjoy watching high quality movies on my phone while traveling, making this a very important point for me when selecting a phone.

Top Comment: I have a 128GB card in my XZ2 that is formatted as exFAT. No issues.

What low-cost phone that support exFAT SDXC cards?

Main Post:

I want to put a wikipedia zim file on a phone using an SD card, but the zim file is 80GB, so I can't use FAT32 as the file system format of the SD card. I have tried a few phones that say they have an SD card slot with support up to 128GB, but it turns out they still only use FAT32. It's hard to find out which android phones actually support exFAT for external SD cards.

I'm looking for a low-cost android phone that uses exFAT SDXC for the microSD card. Anyone know of any?

I don't really care about the carrier or band, since I'm basically just going to be using this to have a portable, offline version of wikipedia.

Thanks for any help.

Top Comment:

If it's a SDXC card it will be automatically formatted as exfat, other solutions required root where you can format an sd card as exfat in windows and then mount it in android with "stick mount" app

Credit cards that offer phone insurance on visible?

Main Post:

Hey y’all, I have an iPhone 13 Pro on the visible plan. I really like the idea of a credit card that offers phone insurance, but most credit cards only offer insurance for postpaid plans and you have to buy your phone from the service provider. This seems like a waste of money to me since I can usually find a phone cheaper elsewhere and prepaid is far cheaper. I’d still like to be able to get cheap or free insurance even if it doesn’t cover the whole cost of the phone. What cards are y’all using for your insurance?

I posted a similar question to creditcards

Top Comment:

Technically none will cover it as it is 1. prepaid and 2. there is no monthly bill and 3. the phone won't be listed on the bill.

But ymmv.

Phone suggestions that work with AT&T and SIM card

Main Post:

I would like to get a phone that works with the SIM card from my iPhone 11.. are any QWERTY keyboard phones compatible? Otherwise any flip phone suggestions? Thank you!

Top Comment:

Now, I am not entirely sure if this will work on AT&T directly because I hear they might have a whitelist in place. But the Kyocera Ky-42C, I've heard, has had great success on FreedomPop, which uses AT&T towers, especially Band 5 and 12! You could also try the Mive Style Folder, but once again, I'm not entirely sure if AT&T has a whitelist in place.

QWERTY phones are a little more tricky because there aren't that many out there besides the Hit K1, Unihertz Titan/Titan Slim, or you could consider a Blackberry Key2 LE or Key2. For QWERTY, you could also wait to see what happens with the minimal phone! Sorry if this wasn't all too helpful, but best of luck on your dumbphone endeavors!

Edit: Unihertz has also mentioned they do have a new QWERTY phone in the works, but no release date as of yet. Another recommended flip would be the sunbeam f1 horizon

Can't enter correct phone number for Credit card

Main Post:

Does it matter?

On my iPhone under my Apple Account there is Payment & Shipping.
In this it has Apply Pay and my CC listed.
For the CC the phone is wrong and no matter what I tried I can't enter it as it's too short.

In edit mode when it's blank it has 123 5555 5555 which is the correct length but when I type it shortens it to 123 4567 89 which is 2 digits too short.
I've tried typing +44 then the number, dropping the zero off etc etc etc nothing works.

Yes I have the region code right on my phone, yes the country/region just above the number is correct.
Does it matter?

Top Comment: The phone number will match whatever is on your phone.

Cell Phone Protection How Does It Work?

Main Post:

I'm trying to figure out how cell phone protection works. It sounds like a nice perk, and I'd like to determine if I'd be eligible or not. I plan to BYOD (bring your own device) as I switch to US Mobile monthly billing.

Some Amex, Chase, U.S. Bank, and Wells Fargo cards offer cell phone protection. I've gathered the terms from each card issuer that I'm looking at and added some bold for emphasis.

What does it mean by the cell phone line is "listed" on the bill? Like the phone line is for the data plan for the sim card, no? Does the bill literally need to say "iPhone 13" for the phone to be covered? Is the only way to achieve this if someone were to finance the original phone purchase through your carrier?

From Amex: "You are eligible for this benefit if your cell phone line is listed on a wireless bill and the prior month’s wireless bill was paid entirely by an Eligible Card Account. Additional terms and conditions apply."

From Chase Freedom Flex: "Get up to $800 per claim and $1,000 per year in cell phone protection against covered theft or damage for phones listed on your monthly cell phone bill when you pay it with your eligible credit card. Maximum of 2 claims in a 12 month period with a $50 deductible per claim."

From U.S. Bank Altitude Connect: "Cellular Telephone Protection can reimburse eligible U.S. Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Cardholders for damage to, theft of or involuntary and accidental parting of Your cell phone. Eligible cell phones are the lines listed on Your most recent cellular wireless service provider’s (“cell phone provider”) monthly billing statement for the billing cycle prior to when the incident occurred. The maximum benefit limit is $600 per occurence, 1 claim per year. Cellular Telephone Protection is subject to a $100 deductible per claim. You will receive the replacement value subject to the hundred dollar ($100.00) deductible and the benefit maximum. This benefit does not cover cellular telephones that are lost or experience electronic failure or issues. If the cardholder has other insurance that applies (such as Cellular Wireless Telephone, homeowner’s, renter’s or employers’ insurance policies), this Protection is supplemental and applies only to the extent the other insurance does not cover. This protection is available when your monthly cell phone bills are paid from your eligible U.S. Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card. Coverage begins the first day of the calendar month following your first cellular telephone billing on your eligible card, and remains in effect when you continue to charge your total monthly cellular telephone bill to your eligible card. In order for coverage to apply, you must charge your monthly cell phone bill to your eligible U.S. Bank Altitude® Connect Visa Signature® Card in the calendar month prior to the month in which the incident occurs. Certain terms, conditions and exclusions apply. For complete coverage benefits, timelines, and exclusions see the attached Cell Phone Protection Guide to Benefits or call 1-866-894-8569 for further details."

From Wells Fargo Active Cash: "Cellular Telephone Protection provides coverage for damage to, theft of, or involuntary and accidental parting of Your cell phone. An involuntary and accidental parting is the unintended separation from Your cell phone when its location is known, but recovery is impractical to complete. This benefit is available if You are a valid cardholder of an eligible U.S. issued card enrolled in the Cellular Telephone Protection benefit and You charge Your monthly cellular wireless phone bills to Your eligible card for the billing cycle before the month in which the incident occurs. Eligible cell phones are the lines listed on Your most recent cellular wireless service provider’s (“cell phone provider”) monthly billing statement for the billing cycle prior to when the incident occurred. "

Top Comment: It might vary a bit by issuer, but you’ll probably need the phone bill, credit card statement, and some type of purchase invoice showing that the phone line is connected to the damaged phone, plus a repair estimate for the specific phone (they’ll want to see that the phone line is associated with the damaged phone’s serial number). I’ve filed cell claims with two different issuers. It’s not too difficult if you have the right documents.

Can I add a memory card in my phone

Main Post:

So I have a OnePlus nord ce4 with 128gb storage that I thought would be enough but turns out it's not😓so I'm thinking of adding another 128gb of storage through a memory card I mainly need storage for games.i want to know if there's any way to format sd card such that the games will be installed in the sd card is this possible.?(The memory card I'm buying is the Samsung Evo 128gb)

Top Comment: I had a similar problem several years ago. My 128GB micro SD card was too small for my game emulators. Eventually I upgraded to a bigger micro SD card. I currently use a 512GB Samsung micro SD card with my OnePlus Nord N30. It sounds like you need to upgrade to a bigger card too. Here's what you need to do. Plug your phone into a PC and transfer everything from your 128GB micro SD card to your PC's hard drive. Turn off your phone and remove your old 128GB micro SD card. Immediately insert your new 512GB micro SD card into your phone and turn the phone back on. Follow the steps in this video to format your new 512GB micro SD card. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvOeU-oMV10 4) After you've successfully formatted your new micro SD card, plug your phone back into the PC and transfer everything back onto your new card.
